Establishing the fractal nature of corneal epithelial cell boundaries.
Presented at the British Applied Mathematics Colloquium (BAMC) 2026 — mini-symposium on Mathematical and Computational Ophthalmology, University of East Anglia.
Abstract
In-vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM) of the corneal epithelium reveals complex cell boundaries whose geometry may carry diagnostic signal beyond conventional grading. This talk outlines work toward characterising the fractal properties of those boundaries and their relationship to clinical context in limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) — with implications for predictive modelling and cohort stratification under small-sample, governance-heavy data regimes.
